Game Recap May 30 Memorial Day: Phillies vs. Nationals

Sorry I have not posted to my blog for the past few day.  I took a much needed vacation over Memorial Day weekend to the beach.

Today, on Memorial Day, the Phillies played the Nationals and Halladay took the mound for the Phillies.  The 1st inning was a quick inning for both teams.  In the 2nd Michael Morse was first up for the Nationals and hit a solo home run giving the Nationals an early lead.  Next up Wilson Ramos singled and went on to score on a sacrifice bunt by Livan Hernadez giving the Nats a 2 to 0 lead.

The game changed for the Phillies in the 4th inning.  Ryan Howard hit a solo home run followed by a solo home run by Raul Ibanez, tying the game at 2.  Next up Carlos Ruiz hit a double and Domonic Brown hit a single and allowed Ruiz to score giving the Phillies a 3 to 2 lead.

Game Recap May 25: Phillies vs. Reds

The Philadelphia Phillies played the Cincinnati Reds tonight in the third game of their four game series in Philadelphia. Charlie Manuel decided to make a change in the lineup for this game and it paid off quick. In the first Jimmy Rollins got on and bating second tonight was Ben Fransico who hit a two run home run giving the Phillies a quick lead. Ruiz lead off the 2nd with a double and Mayberry came up to drive in the run bringing the score to 3 to 0.  In the 5th the Reds get some hits and score by a hit by Joey Votto making the score 3 to 1.  The Reds score again in the 7th inning on a single by Jay Bruce, both Miguel Cairo and Drew Stobbs score making the game tied at 3.  Micheal Stutes comes in to replace Roy Halladay in the 8th inning.  Ryan Madson came into the game in the 9th to replace Stutes.  The game remained tied after 9 so it went to extra innings.  In the 10th Jay Bruce hit a home run to take the lead for the Reds, 4 to 3.  In the bottom of the 10th Ryan Howard came up and hit a home run to tie the game up again.  Both teams could not score until finally in the 19th inning, Valdez hit a walk off 2 run home run. Game Recap May 24: Phillies vs. Reds

Tonights game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds was not as much of a high scoring game as last nights game for the Phillies.  Pitching for the Phillies tonight was Worley who went five innings.

In the 1st Worley allowed a double by Joey Votto and allowed Votto to score on a Scott Rolen single.  The 2nd inning was starting to look like last nights game for the Phillies.  Ryan Howard hit a long double followed by Raul Ibanez doubling and getting an RBI.  Domonic Brown then hit a sacrifice fly allowing Ibanez to score.

In the 3rd inning Chase Utley got his first hit of the season with a single to center field.  In the 4th Ibanez got his second hit of the night followed by a double by Carlos Ruiz, which allowed Ibanez to score.  In the 5th the game started to turn and the Reds had a big inning.  First, Johnny Cueto walked.  Then, Drew Stubbs hit a ground rule double followed by single by Brandon Phillips which was a 2 RBI single.  This makes the game a tie game at 3.  In the 6th Charlie Manuel made a pitching change having David Hemdon replace Worley.  Then, another pitching change for the Phillies in the 7th having Micheal Stutes to replace Hemdon.  Again there was another pitching change for the Phillies in the 8th inning, Antonio Bastardo for Stutes.  In the 9th the Reds broke the tie with Bruce hitting a 3 run double.

The Reds won the game 6 to 3 and tied this four game series at 1 game each.

Chase Utley Returns

Chase Utley got a standing obviation when he came up to bat in the first inning I tonight's game against the Cincinnati Reds. This is understandable since Utley is a fan favorite and has been gone for such a long time.

The Phillies jumped off to a great start with Jimmy Rollins singling and Planco hitting a two run homer in the 1st. Cole Hamels also started the game off great with just a 10 pitch inning in the 1st. The Phillies look like they got their swaggar back just with Chase Utley being back in the lineup. The 2nd inning was another great inning for the Phillies with Brown hitting a double.

The 3rd was another great batting inning for the Phils with Raul Ibanez getting an RBI single making the score 3 to 0. Then Mayberry hit a two run RBI single, making it 5 to 0. Next up the pitcher, Cole Hamels, an easy out? Nope! Hamels hits an RBI single. The hits continue with Jimmy Rollins up and hitting a 3 run homer. In the 4th Ibanez hits a solo home run brining the score to 10 to 3 as the Cardnials scored 3 in the 4th.

The next view innings went by quietly and quickly. The Phillies won 10 to 3 in this very exciting game.

Game Recap May 22: Phillies vs. Rangers and Phillies News

The Philadelphia Phillies played a great game today but fell a little short losing the game and the series to the Texas Rangers.  The pitcher for the Phillies today was Oswalt and for the Rangers was Harrison.  Oswalt came out in the 1st inning with a shaky start, allowing a double and hitting Ian Kinsler.  The game was then quiet for the next few innings until in the 6th inning.  Oswalt allowed a double to Ibanez allowing Young to score for the Rangers.  Charlie Manuel decided in the 8th inning to replace Oswalt with Romero.  Romero allowed Beltre to double and after facing 2 batter Manuel again decided to make a pitching change, bringing in Herndon.  Herdon hit the first batter he faced and allowed a run to score on a sacrifice bunt.  The Phillies could not get the needed hits in the final 2 innings of the game and lost to the Texas Rangers 2 to 0 and lost the series.

In other Philadelphia Phillies news, there is talk that Chase Utley may make his return to the Phillies after playing a few games in the minors to recover from his injury.  Utley did make a return Sunday but was still on the DL and did not play in today's game.  He is expected to be in the lineup for Monday's game which is very exciting more Phillies fans!

Victorino on DL

Shane Victorino has been placed on a 15 day dl for his hamstring.  He injured his hamstring Saturday while playing against the Atlanta Braves.  He had a MRI done and found that he sprained his hamstring and needed to rest it for a few days in order to fully recover.
To replace Victorino while on the 15 day dl Manuel decided to call up Domonic Brown.  Brown played with the team in spring training but injured his hand and was sent to triple A ball for the Phillies.  He was called up since Manuel has said that he is a good player and fits into the lineup well.  I look forward to watching Brown to see how well he performs in the MLB but also I look for to Victorino making a quick recovery and playing center field again.

Game recap May 20th: Phillies vs. Rangers

Finally the Phillies are starting to look like the Phillies again. With Halladay on the mound the Phillies beat the Rangers 3 to 2. Halladay pitching a great game only giving up 2 runs through 8 innings. The Rangers had a small rally in the 8th inning to get within one run but that was not enough to beat the Phillies. Ryan Madson came in to close the game for the Phillies in the 9th and did a great job. The Phillies lineup is still missing alot of the regulars who are on the DL, but the back ups did a great job filling in for them in this game. The Phillies go on to play the Rangers again tomorrow and hopefully continue playing as well as they played in this game.

Game Recap May 17th: Phillies vs. Cardnials

Oswalt on the mound for the Phillies is usually a good thing for the Phils but not for this game.  The Phillies gave up a large amount of hits in last nights game, 13.  Us at All Phillies are really looking for a win from the Phillies soon to get out of this slump.

The Phillies do have a lot of injuries that are currently affecting the lineup but the back ups need to do a better job in getting clutch hits.  Oswalt looked good for the first three innings on his return to the rotation but things changed in the fourth.

The Cards scored in the fourth from a hit by Molina and things went down hill from there for the Phillies.  Charlie Manuel finally made a pitching change in the sixth inning as Oswalt was suppose to bat.  Kyle Kendrick came in to replace Oswalt.  This seemed like a good idea to help out the Phillies to hold the Cards to a one run lead to come back.  Finally in the eighth inning Rollins scored from a sacrifice fly by Polanco.  Another pitching change for the Phils came in the eighth inning as Antonio Bastardo came in to replace Kendrick.  Finally in the ninth a third pitching change for the Phillies as Baez came in to close the game.  The game appeared like it would be going to extra innings until Berkman hits a single and Jon Jay scores to end the game with a win for the Cardinals.

Tailgating Must Haves

I decided to start a new section on this blog about tailgating at the Phillies games.  This post will be just some of the basic must haves when tailgating, and future posts will be different tailgating ideas.

MUST HAVE:
  1. Cooler with ice and your choice beverages.  Recommend: COLD BEER
  2. Grill
  3. Chairs
  4. EZ up Tent
  5. Radio with iPod dock
  6. Tables
  7. Garbage Bags
  8. Rain gear is usually a good idea as well
  9. Snacks
  10. Hamburger, hot dogs, sausage or any other favorites on the grill
  11. Phillies flag, shirts, chairs, paint, sticker and anything else Phillies related
These are just some of the basics to get you started for a great pregame tailgating session but I will add more posts about other ideas.

Injury Update: Victornio

As Phillies phans we are getting used to hearing about injuries this year.  Another name to add to the injury list after todays game against the Braves is Victorino.  Victorino left the game in the 8th inning due to a hurt hamstring.  He had said in an interview that he will not be playing in the game on Sunday as the Phillies try to win the series against the Braves.  He also went on to say that it is not a very bad injury.  This is good news for the Phillies as Victorino is a clutch hitter and fielder in the lineup.

Game Recap May 14: Phillies vs. Braves

Today in Atlanta was not a good game for the Phils with a loss 5 - 3.  Atlanta was the first team to score tonight in the 1st unlike last nights quick lead for the Phillies.  Blanton allowed the Braves lead off, Martin Prado to hit a homer in the first inning of the game.  Next up for the Braves, Nate McLouth, hits another homer making this game appear like it would be a long game for Blanton.  The next few innings went on without any runs or any big hits until the top of the 6th.  Jimmy Rollins hit a double which brought in a Martinez, who pinch hit for Blanton.  The bottom of the 6th was another inning like the 1st.  Ramero came in to replace Blanton and was quicly take out to be replaced by Kendrick who allowed 3 more runs for the Braves.  The Phils tried hard in the 8th inning to have a late rally to take the lead.  Valdez doubled and Ibanez scored on the hit.  Mayberry also had a RBI in the 8th scoring Ibanez.  This rally was not enough though as the Braves beat the Phillies 5 to 3.

Game Recap May 13: Phillies vs. Braves

Friday the 13th seemed to appear in tonight's game in Atlanta as the Phillies took the lead early.  Cole Hamels vs. Brandon Beachy was the match up for the game, which looked like a good game.  Early in the top of the first the Phillies took the lead from a 3 run blast from Howard.  At this point it looked like the Phillies were off to a great start.  On the other hand things were not going as well for Beachy as he throw over 40 pitches between the first two innings as the Phillies batted around.  At this point things began to get interesting, could it be because it is Friday the 13th?  Hamels commits the first error as he overthrows first base on what appeared as a simple out at first.  The Phils then started to lose the lead and before you knew it the game was all tied at 3's in the 5th.  In the third, Cristhian Martinez came in to replace Beachy and retired the next 12 Phillies in order.  In the 6th the Braves took the lead at 4 to 3.  That lead was quickly lost in the next inning as Rollins doubled and Victorino singled to bring in the run to tie the game at 4.  The bats kept working for the Phils in the 8th as Howard doubled and Ibanez singled to get the RBI and the lead at 5 to 4.  Madson came in to close out the game.  The Phillies ended up winning against the Braves in tonights interesting game 5 to 4.  The Phillies and Braves will continue their 3 game series tomorrow (5/14) at 1:05 in Atlanta.
